If
I asked you to choose one thing that epitomizes the best of
being a woman, what would it be? If you’re like me, you’d
answer, “Why just one?” Let’s see if your responses made
my list:
1. I get to change my mind...frequently.
This isn’t always a bad thing. For example, some days I just
abhor the way women’s television portrays us. As a friend of
mine once said, “If it’s television for women, why do they
only show movies where guys abuse their wives?” But other
days I’ll gleefully watch Farrah Fawcett set her husband on
fire. Life is always an adventure for women; we never know
what we’ll want tomorrow.
2. Proud to be a bitch.
It’s a noun. It’s a verb. It’s an adjective. Heck,
it’s even a magazine. Have you ever noticed that women who
stand up for their principals, let alone have an opinion, are
labeled with the “B-word?” It seems that any woman who
tries to make a difference is often assigned this moniker.
Whether you’re Hillary Clinton, Marlene Dietrich or dare I
say it, Martha Stewart, proudly wear your “Hello my name
is… Bitch” sticker!
3. Femininity is the antithesis of manliness.
From tomboy to Barbie doll look-a-like, femininity is inherent
in us all. Grace and poise has seen women through war and
childbirth and continues to give us quiet strength as we
change the way we are viewed both professionally and
intellectually. I remember the 80s well — watching my mother
put on a suit with a floofy silk “tie” but still taking
the time to blot her lipstick. There was an unspoken lesson in
her quiet preparation. She showed me that you could best a man
in business without losing an ounce of your femininity. Your
